Interest in Computers

My passion for computer repair started long ago when I was a small gremlin.

My dad would pick up computers from the street (mostly Macintosh G4 desktops), and take them to his friend to get them fixed and sell. Eventually the friend showed my dad how to fix them himself so that my dad wouldn't have to take them all the way to his house.

My dad started to bring the computers home and I would sit and watch him attempt to fix the computers. Eventually I started to catch on and fixed them myself, including those that friends and family had lying around.

Monkey see, monkey do - someone probably idk

Memories of that time are fuzzy unfortunatley, but I do have memories of learning how a computer works and how to fix small issues like no screen or POST beeps. Google was my teacher till around 2019 when I started college at [redacted] and learned so much more about how computers work, along with networking.

I remember watching a video on how a hard drive worked, and then opening my own hard drive and messing around with it, not realizing that I was destroying the data that was on it by scratching the heads onto the platters.

My dad's confusion on why the HDD wasn't working is still strong in my head. All of my games and his documents were gone.

I will use this opportunity to tell you that you should have backups of your stuff! I don't care if its on a USB drive or online, MAKE A BACKUP! YOU WILL REGRET IT LATER IF YOU DON'T. Something I have missed is the sounds of the heads clicking and clacking while accessing data. [insert hdd clicking sound button] Now I am running my own computer repair business, and while business is slow, I am better prepared to solve many computer problems than I was before.

Around 2021 I started an internship at [redacted] and learned so much from that experience. They installed security cameras and worked on servers, along with office printers. And not the ones you buy at a store.

It was one of these. They are very large.

I'll gladly share some Tech Tips here [link to page]

The internship ended as it was a school program, and while I was offered a job, I had to turn it down a week in because at that time, my mental health was not where it is now and I actually broke down at work. That was embarrasing for me and made me realize that I needed to work on myself before working for someone else.
