THIS WEEK HAS BEEN INSANE
I cannot remember much, but I can remember that this weekend was the worst when it comes to heat.
The high was around 113 F or 45 C for my international folks. My poor HVAC was struggling to keep up.
I did need to run some errands during those days, it was awful since my car is still leaking water due to a bad water pump. That means no AC. Don't have enough to fix it sadly.
I had 2 computer repair jobs so that was fun, the first customer had a pirated program for accessing repair manuals for old cars. He says he got it years back from a teacher in 2016. The laptop that he was using quit working, which I thought was age related. Turns out he was using the wrong AC adapter as the computer needed 8 amps of DC current, when the adpater only provided 4.
The laptop was running Windows 7, the best operating system around. Too bad the programs were not made for Windows 10/11 as I could not get them to run no matter what compatability settings I tried.
I took out the SSD that was inside it, and it was made by Hyundai. Didn't know they were also a Yamaha. The SSD was in a metal enclosure and felt heavy. This was probably because it either had weights or used more chips than today's SSDs.
I managed to snag the files for my 2005 Toyota Camry LE, as in the future I may want to repair the water pump myself or fix any other thing wrong with it.
I happened to have an older laptop from 2011. A Lenovo G575. I remember using it since it belonged to my aunt many moons ago, and she would let me use it or fix it lmao. She sadly took advantage of us and we had to kick her out a few months back. We haven't talked since.
I installed the SSD into the laptop and it just worked. If only you could do this today. I installed the drivers required for the Wi-Fi, GPU, and sound.
I also used a new service called Legacy Update. It aims to provide updates for Windows operating systems that are no longer being supported, such as XP, 7, and 8.1 (we don't talk about 8.).
As much as I didn't want the customer to connect the laptop to the internet, he needs printer access so I had to connect it regardless. I was surprised Windows 7 was able to find the printer, and I had to grab the driver from the internet so that it would work properly, since it didn't have it built-in.
Then the job was done! I went to the store and bought a Twisted Tea Mangoniada flavored beverage. I would NOT recomend as it tastes LIKE ASS. I can't remember if they used artificial flavors (and I'm too lazy to duckduckgo) but it tasted like it.
The other computer was to diagnose a no display issue. After futher investigation, the fucking GPU was water damaged and then this happened while I was using a test card:
So yea I hope my test GPU isn't fucked lmaoo
For the rest of the week I didn't do much. I tried a gyudon beef bowl from a boba place that was near my moms appointment, and it was really good.
I did however watch a video about compostable coffee pods.
The short summary is that: This coffee pod is not made from plastic.
- The three components:
- Lid: Made from paper and other compostable materials*
- Ring: Made from coffee chaff and other compostable materials* (plant based resin and a compostable biopolymer), which is the outer shell that is left over after roasting the beans
- Filter: Made from plant-based materials.
* - The downside of this filter is that unless your trash pickup collection service has an industrial level compositng facility, this pod won't degrade as quickly or at all since high tempreatures are required for the composting to be effective.
My state has required us to now bag our food waste and place it in our green bins. While social anxiety prevents me from calling them up and asking if they have an industrial composting facility, I decided to just buy them anyways and see what happens.
So one Coffee Roaster that seels these kinds of pods is Club Coffee. I opted for their Beaniac Coffee House, Medium Roast blend as I am still experimenting with what strengths and flavors I enjoy. I had a bag of Seattles Best Coffee - Portland Blend Medium Roast that was perfect.
Of course we all know that the stuff you get from the grocery store usually isn't high quality. The best way to get high quality coffee (according to watching youtube videos by James Hoffmann) is that you buy the bean whole, keep it inside an air tight container, grind them at home, then use a V60 pourover contraption to get a delicious cup of brown.
Of course this requires MONEY and since I already have a Kurieg that someone gave me, I decided to instead buy these pods and see if they are worth the no-mess & compostible method of disposing of them.
Even though I do have a cheap pour-over setup, I don't really use it since I have the Kurieg now lmao
The issue with K-Cups is the plastic. It is really hard to recycle Plastic #7 & #5, the ladder being what the current cups are using. You also need to remove the non-recyclable paper foil lid, dump the beans, then remove the paper filter. The point of a Kurieg is to have coffee with one motion and press of a button. Then dispose of the cup. No mess.
Even though I said I would do all of that with the K-Cups we get, I eventually stopped because it was pointless as most recyclers expect the cups to be clean and empty. Mine are def not as I don't rinse them after I do all of those steps. Kurieg has made the paper-foil lids easier to remove, but that doesn't remove the extra steps dumping and removing the filter.
Now, I was taught that boxes are supposed to be square. I don't know what Amazon was taught, but they need to go back to school because what the fuck is this:
I made a complaint but beacuse the pods were fine, they couldn't do anything about it. Fucking asshats. It came in a plastic mailer, not a box so that's probably why it was dented like that.
Regardless, they come in these non-recyclable bags (which brings me to ask, if the POD itself is compostable, why not the bag? at least make it recyclable. It may have something to do with the one way valve but I think other roasters have recyclable/compostable bags)
The pod itself looks like this:
It honestly looks like a testicle lmao. Anyway, once you open the bag you are hit with a whiff of fresh coffee. And the coffee is apparently "Organic", whatever that means. The lid and ring feel like plastic, which makes me think about other ways we could replace plastic in other products. Coffee Gaming Monitor anyone?
If you do touch the filter, you do end up getting residual coffee powder and bits of the filter itself, this is nothing to worry about though since you can just hold the pod from the edges. Some of the edges have a wider ring than others, this is to bypass the STUPID DRM that Kurieg has on some of their coffee makers. I have a K2.0 K200 so there's a little sensor that can detect a non-genuine coffee pod. Or so it thinks it can, since all I have to do is install a jig (which I don't have) or turn the pod a few times before it will let me brew. Sometimes it will think a pod is not in there, which may work. I haven't tested this however.
Once you get past the DRM, you just brew a cup as normal and prepare to your taste. My brother gave it a 5/6, which is good as he is an addict. I have been noticing a less pronounced coffee taste whenever I make my coffee, so I may need to either get a stronger brew, use more water, or use less milk/ice. I do want to get a cup that you just throw into the freezer, then pour your hot coffee to make it cool without diluting it with ice. But that requires MONEY.
The pod is EXTREMLEY HOT (duh) after brewing, so you will either need to have a container that you put used pods into, a napkin to catch any drips of water, or wait till its cool enough to then dispose of it (or just use a rag lmao). I really enjoy not having to peel a stupid foil and dump the coffee while the trash scent goes deep inside my body.
I enjoy this type of pod for the following reasons:
- I don't need to pour ground coffee beans into a reusable K-Cup which makes a mess and is tedious.
- The pod is NOT made of plastic, so that makes me feel less bad about adding to the problem.
- I don't need to peel a foil lid or cut it with a knife, dump out the beans and walk to the recycling bin and throw it in there
- The strength and taste is perfect for what I look for in coffee. And since I make it myself, I can control how much milk and sugar to add. Some other coffee shops (green woman) claim to sell coffee but instead they sell milk with loads of sugar.
I dislike the pods as the bags they are stored in can only be disposed of in the trash, sometimes it doesn't work with my machine, but that's not the pods fault, and the requirement for industrial composting facilities makes the benefits of the pod worthless as they would just get dumped into a landfill.
I went to diagnose an oven with my dad, but it was working sooo whoops lmao. Then I tagged along to go to his bosses, house and this MAN HAS A PORSHE? I didn't take a picture beacuse anxiety but it was white. I wanted to drive it, but also not beacuse I will crash LMAO.
Also Wingstop can you explain wtf is this:
I mean I get it, working at fast food sucks but at least spread the pickles around. smh.
AND NOW HERE COMES THE FUN PARTS.
So there's a furry artist who goes by jayrnski. They draw and sell some art prints and other trinkets of their characters. I can't remember exactly how I found her, but I want to say that Twitter suggested her account to me and her art style makes my brain go brrr so I followed. The first purchase was an Acrylic Standee of Maple, shown here in her natural habitat:
and slowly over time, I would buy more and more items from her. Ranging from stickers to an Acrylic Keychain.
So fast forward to yesterday where I got the art prints in the mail and wanted to show Twitter what I got. At first the app was stuck uploading the video, then when I went to review the tweet, I got this video from it:
I get that sometimes apps break, but what the actual fuck. And because it kept trying to upload the video, Twitter marked my account as spam so that's fucking great. Thanks ELON.
Here's the new video I created since Elon is GAY:
Here are the new prints I got recently:
Thanks again to jayrnski for the art prints!! Your art means the world to my sister and I!
I ended up going to Dunkin right before they closed because my sister would not SHUT THE FUCK about getting boba. I was not able to tip, but I am thankful they took my order lmao. Also tell me why the fuck my sister wants to get boba today, when she got Dunkin yesterday??
She wanted boba, but because the only boba places open at that time (around 7:30 PM) were kinda far away, I didnt want to drive that far. So I opted for an option she likes: Dunkin.
Fact: Did you know that America runs on Dunkin? Now you know.
Anyways I prefer Dunkin over anything else tbh, and I got a Caramel Craze Iced Signature Latte. Well we all did since that's the only coupon they had available lmao. And I am not sure if they actually made it Decaf, since I stayed up pretty late. But I was also sleepy so idk.
Also I drank a Mike's Harder Lemonade and it was actually good wtf. I stayed up till 4 am though cause oopsie and I had to fucking get up at 8 to help with my aunts internet installation. I was not told about that so yay me I guess. Then I had to run some errands which included buying pool bleach, paying my car registration, getting wingstop, trying to go back to sleep, eating a hotdog, then going to Dunkin.
I slept at 2 am this time, so that is still bad but less bad than before. And I spent the entire day creating this post lmao cause I kept getting interrupted.
The post is now coming to a close, I spent the entire day writing this because I kept getting interupted lmaooo. Anyways, if you made it this far, thank you for reading this shit and please: check up on your friends and family. you never know what they may be going through.
Also fire in mountains bad.
